Vak Choir Performance Workshops are the first step to take to become a member of the Vak Choir. In these workshops you will receive training in ancient Indian vocal and listening techniques traditionally employed for healing and spiritual realization. These philosophical understandings and vocal practices will serve as material for the final composition Vak: Song of Becoming.
In The Vak Performance Workshops we aspire to a develop a deep embodiment of these sound practices. While accessible to anyone, these practices have the power to create a fundamental shift in our relationship to sound and awareness, and thus require time for cultivation. Regular attendance and practice between sessions is a must. We will be developing or skill and understanding of the following areas: • Full-body resonance • Classical Indian Raga singing • Bija mantra meditation • Devotional Chanting • Group Improvisation • Vedic mantra recitation • Sanskrit • Naada Yoga (Deep Listening) • Creating Community Thru Song Once you have completed a Vak Choir Performance Workshop Session you are may register for the Vak Choir and perform in Vak: Song Of Becoming September 20-21 at the YBCA. These Spring East Bay and San Francisco Spring workshop sessions are our last in a series offered since last fall. Attendance. A maximum of two classes may be missed and still qualify as an official Vak Choir Member. Make-up classes may be made at either the San Francisco or East Bay sessions. Payment. Registration fees cover the costs of presenting the Vak Choir Performance Workshops and contribute to the production costs of Vak: Song of Becoming. Performance Workshop fees have been kept deliberately low in order to make this experience available to as many people as possible. Registration is for the entire course. Refunds will not be issued for missed attendance. Work trade opportunities and partial scholarships are available on an as needed basis. Click here to enquire about work/study trades. Joining the Vak Choir. Once you have completed a Vak Choir Performance Workshop you are eligible to register to be an official Vak Choir Member and attend summer rehearsal in preparation for the premiere performance of Vak: Song of Becoming |
